Brightside Behavioral Health is a licensed behavioral health practice serving Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The SAFE Initiative is our response to what we're seeing in schools: more students in distress, more educators overwhelmed, and too little support connecting the two.
Brightside Behavioral Health provides compassionate, evidence-based behavioral health services to individuals and families across Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Our licensed clinicians specialize in therapy, psychiatric services, and community-based behavioral health programming.
We believe every person deserves a safe space to grow. Our approach combines clinical expertise with genuine human connection, meeting clients where they are and helping them move toward lasting wellness.
We work with families every day. Many of those families have children in schools where teachers are seeing rising anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and behavioral challenges but don't have the training or tools to respond well. The gap between what students need and what schools can provide is growing.
The SAFE Initiative is our answer: bring clinical knowledge directly into schools through structured training, student-facing workshops, and technology that puts trauma-informed guidance in the hands of the educators who need it most.
SAFEin, the AI-supported toolkit, was born from a practical question: what if the clinical scripts and response strategies our therapists use could be available to a teacher in the middle of a difficult moment, not after? That's what SAFEin does.
Every aspect of the SAFE Initiative is shaped by our clinical team. The AI in SAFEin is not a standalone chatbot. It is a delivery mechanism for clinician-approved content, bounded by guardrails that we designed and that we review on an ongoing basis.
Our approach is built on a simple principle: technology should extend the reach of good clinical care, never replace it. SAFEin helps educators respond in the moment. When the situation calls for more, the SAFE Initiative creates a clear pathway to our clinical team.
The SAFE Initiative is grant-funded during the pilot. We're committed to sustaining it beyond the initial funding period through a blended model: Medicaid reimbursement for eligible therapy and psychiatric services, state and municipal partnerships with school districts, and supplemental grant funding from foundations and community partners.
In addition to the SAFE Initiative, Brightside Behavioral Health provides outpatient therapy, psychiatric services, and community-based behavioral health support. Families connected through the SAFE Initiative have a direct pathway to these services when ongoing care is needed.

We believe people are the experts on their own lives. Our tools and training are designed to build lasting capacity, not reliance on outside support.
Behavioral health struggles are not permanent. We approach each student, family, and educator with the expectation that things can, and do, get better.
Our interventions are evidence-based. Our communication is human. We do not sacrifice one for the other.
Our curriculum and clinical approach are developed with cultural humility and reviewed for relevance across Rhode Island's diverse school communities.
We show up when we say we will, communicate transparently with school partners, and hold ourselves accountable to the families we serve.
The best behavioral health services feel like being genuinely seen and heard. We train for that, and we hold our staff to that standard.
Whether you're a school administrator, a parent, a community partner, or a funder, we welcome the conversation.
